Double Dragon III NES Guide

This is a walkthrough for the NES version of Double Dragon III.  For additional help, look in the codes section.  This game can prove to be extremely hard, so I recommend a turbo pad for both players.  The NES Max and NES Advantage are good choices.  You can also use the NES Four Score (four player adapter) to turn your standard NES controllers into turbo pads.  This game gives a free continue for Missions 4 or 5.  Otherwise, you'll need to input a special code during the game over screen.

Mission 1: U.S.A.

You start off in the dojo with only one enemy.  He's easily defeated.  Talk to Brett to fight more enemies.
More enemies will pile in from the door.  An easy way to defeat them is to stand next to the door and perform cyclone kicks when they enter.
Go through the door to make it outside the dojo.  You will be attacked by enemies from the right who will run and jump kick.  Do not bother trying to knock them out of the air unless you're really skilled.  Just move up or down to avoid them, then attack.
Robinson can prove to be a real pain when he keeps kicking you.  If this happens, use the cyclone kick or hair throw to stop him.
Gibsons will occasionally drop army knives to your advantage.  Throw the knife at them while they are charging at you to deal some damage.
Head up the elevator to the second floor.  Wait against the wall to the right while the enemies approach so you are not knocked over the edge to the left.  Cyclone kick and hair throw them over the edge while avoiding it yourself.
Empty bottles can prove useful as well.  You won't lose a bottle until you kill the person who dropped it, so attack everyone except the bottle's original owner.
Stay to the far left or right.  If you are caught in the middle, enemies will attack from both sides, making it harder.  Make sure to move up or down to avoid their jump kicks.  Any attack will do here, but  make sure to pick up dropped weapons.
As soon as you defeat all the enemies, the boss will come out.  Jim is not too difficult if you use the right attacks.  Pull out your nunchucks and avoid him by moving up or down, not left or right.  Smack him once with the nunchucks, then move up or down.  Rinse and repeat.
If you make the mistake of standing in front of Jim while he is getting up, you will be greeted with a flying knee to the face.  Enemies in this game are most dangerous when you are on the same horizontal line as them.  Five whacks with the nunchucks will put Jim away.
