Re: Are online ads a security risk for older users?
Some online ads are specifically designed to exploit older Internet users. For example, there are ads that claim their computer is “infected” and encourage older Internet users to call a fake support number. Or there are ads that promise high returns or “government-backed” investment opportunities that don’t actually exist.
Re: Are online ads a security risk for older users?
Online advertising itself is not dangerous, but it can become a serious security threat when scammers use it to target unsuspecting users, especially the elderly. An example is Health Product Scams . These are ads for miracle cures or supplements that are advertised as “doctor-approved” or “clinically proven” without any evidence. There are many more examples. But to protect my parents, I installed an adblocker on their computer . This allows them to block unwanted ads, pop-ups, etc.
