Double Dragon Neo Geo...one of the best DD games?

It had been quite some time(about 15 years) since I last played the Neo Geo Double Dragon game. I remember it being way better than "DDV", and given it was actually from Technos, I considered it more of an official game.
Having recently fired up the ol MAME, I've really taken a liking to DD for the Neo Geo. Sure, it doesn't have near the fluidity of anime-esque Street Fighter 3 and Alpha 3 movement or feel. And yes, it feels like it came out of 1993 not 1995. But it has a flow and epicness to each match that I like. I can't even stand to watch the Double Dragon movie, not even in that "its so bad its good/drinking game" sort of way(And I do love me some bad b movie cult classics) But for some reason DD NG just feels like it's a part of the official series.
Anyone else here consider the Neo Geo game a part of the official Double Dragon canon? Especially since it's from Technos and not some third party?
I don't even acknowledge or consider Double Dragon 3(cept maybe the NES version) or(especially) Double Dragon V as part of the official series. Both these games were so horribly conceived and bear little resemblance in theme. (The Virgin Games developed Game Gear Double Dragon is perhaps one of the most bizarre of the games...is it suppose to be Double Dragon 4?)
To me the official series(least the ones I like) would be:
(I prefer to just include Technos continuity and games)
Double Dragon(arcade, 1987)
Double Dragon 2(arcade, 1988)
Super Double Dragon(SNES, 1992)
and "Double Dragon Neo Geo"(Neo Geo Arcade/PS1 1995)
I might even include the NES DD3, and Double Dragon Advance(tho I take major issue with the coloring of Atlus' DDA, as well as the redrawn Billy and Jimmy...for some reason the colors feel muddy and way off)
One does have to wonder, what a side scrolling DD brawler utilizing the Neo Geo DD game sprites and background would be like...if only SF II clone syndrome hadnt been so ubiquitous(would be cool to see someone rip the sprites and make a homebrew like side scroller with it) But still, as it stands I personally consider it the last real Double Dragon game
