Dan Druff originally posted this information in the old forums, but I happened to catch it on Gamasutra as well. I thought I'd re-post it here.

Tradewest, which published certain Double Dragon titles such as the original for the NES and Battletoads & Double Dragon, sort of disappeared in the '90s after being eaten by Midway.

It's doubtful that Tradewest has any lasting rights to Double Dragon. But it's interesting news, nonetheless.

That is interesting. You don't expect to see old publishers return, especially (fairly) obscure ones such as Tradewest.

Who holds the rights to Double Dragon now and how do we buy it? ;)

Well from what I understand Aksys games is made up of the old Technos/Million employees, so perhaps they do. That company released a Super Dodgeball game fairly recently for the DS. In fact, I saw a copy at GameStop.

So perhaps it would be up to them to release a new game in partnership with Atlus.

What's weird is that the downloadable Double Dragon games (Xbox Live Arcade and Virtual Console) haven't been handled by Atlus or Aksys from what I can tell.

Its been awhile since I last posted here.

Anyway, just to clarify DojoMaster's post, Aksys has absolutely nothing to do with Million outside of localizing their titles. However, Aksys does have a close relationship with Arc System Works, the Japanese publisher of most of the Kunio-related stuff that comes out nowadays, which why Aksys were the ones who released Double Dragon and River City Ransom for the Virtual Console in North America, as well as the publisher of Super Dodgeball Brawlers. Apparently Million changed publishers from Atlus to Arc System Works.

Most of the former Technos staff is actually working for Miracle Kidz, the indie developer that did Downtown Smash Dodgeball for the Xbox Live Arcade. They're independent from Million, although Mitsuhiro Yoshida (the founder of Miracle Kidz) did worked on Double Dragon Advance as a producer, but I'm not sure if he has anything to do with Million now.

Welcome back Johnny! Thanks for the update.

Any news on the NES sequels coming to the Virtual Console?

Not to my knowledge. They did released Street Challenge a week or so ago though, which means that the remaining titles from Technos' NES catalog left to be released on the Virtual Console are Nintendo World Cup, Super Spike V'Ball, and the two Double Dragon sequels.
