Double Dragon Mugen help

Trying to put together a DD mugen game that retains the look and 80's/early 90's feel of DD
I'm using Neo Geo's DD as a base, the color palette/graphical style doesn't seem to mesh well with certain 2D fighters though.
So far I'm taking fighters from these games, and renaming some of them to DD character names.
Double Dragon Neo Geo (all characters work aside from the final boss, i refuse to have any character based off that awful movie.)
Aggressors Of Dark Kombat (these characters work perfectly with the theme and feel of DD. NO over the top super powered moves. They also have that 80s/90s theme haha.
Art OF Fighting 1 and 2 graphically not too different. just need to resize the characters a bit.
3 Count Bout Wrestling characters always make cool bosses. also the spite style fits well.
Saturday Night Slam Masters The only capcom game that fits. All other capcom game fighters are too brightly colored sadly.
I'm using doubledragon.kontek.net/games/index.html and doubledragon.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page for character information and resources.
I was also thinking some Fatal Fury 3 characters might work, but I'm worried they might be too brightly colored.
Thoughts?
Any other huge DD fans out there?
also its interesting to find out the last boss of DD1 arcade is Jick, not Abobo.
