I pretty much agree with you on Double Dragon 3.
I also like the idea of Double Dragon using a Blazblue style as far as 2D goes. It’s beautiful, appealing, and I feel that would attract a lot of people. It could be special. I can see a new series of games off of this platform. I feel that this would make a huge game for 2D purposes.
As far as Double Dragon going along the path of a game such as Batman AA, it has to be deeper than a beat em up nowadays in order to be on a grander scale if it goes 3D. I understand what you are saying about a new game choosing that path, so you have to approach it with a fine line. To me, you have to have a beat em up like fighting system, but only deeper. You also need to make sure the characters and settings feel like Double Dragon. The problem with Double Dragon Neon is that it doesn’t feel like a true Double Dragon game because of its look. It’s just too far out of the box concept-wise. Regardless of whether it’s 2 or 3D or the gameplay, the most important aspect of remaking a classic game is that it does have a look and feel similar to the classic.
One game I’m looking forward to playing is Sleeping Dogs. While it does have more elements than fighting, I feel like the look and feel is worth checking out.
