If anyone follows fighting games, the annual Evolution Championship Series has begun this weekend at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. I never followed this event before until I found out Melty Blood: Actress Again was going to be in it. Somehow that game found its way into a major American tournament despite having no official English version; the game has to be imported. I really hope its presence in EVO 2010 will mean an official U.S. version in the future.

Never played Melty Blood. Seems somewhat odd to me.

This EVO tournament just keeps getting bigger. There are now nine games in the event: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Version 2012, Ultimate Marvel versus Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, King of Fighters XIII, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Persona 4 Arena, Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Injustice: Gods Among Us. A donation drive was set up to determine the eighth game, and Super Smash Bros. Melee ended up the winner by donating $94683 towards breast cancer research. Even though Injustice was only released in April, the publisher Warner Bros. was able to sneak the game in the official lineup despite also being one of the candidates in the donation drive where it only generated $77. The big story last was Korean players dominating the tournament by winning half of the games while beating high-profile Japanese players in Street Fighter and high-profile Mexican players in King of Fighters.
